We welcome you to our newly renovated home in the heart of the world famous wine village of Pommard, set in the stunning heart of the Cote de Beaune, Burgundy. If you are looking for a holiday that combines wine, culture, relaxation and fabulous scenery, then we would love to have you come and stay with us in Pommard, a village on "The Route des Grands Crus", the most prestigious part of Burgundy's vineyards and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our 200 year old Vigneron’s house has undergone extensive renovation during the last year but still retains many of its original features whilst now boasting an extremely generous, modern family kitchen/diner, living room, 4 double bedrooms and a twin bedroom and two modern bathrooms with showers and traditional roll top baths, plus the added addition of a downstairs cloakroom complete with traditional Burgundian walls and floors. Clos de Verger comes complete with antique furniture, beautiful French mirrors, chandeliers and designer lighting and sumptuous beds for a truly decadent night’s sleep at the end of a day spent adventuring in the heart of the UNESCO protected Burgundian vines.
Set back from the small road that serves it, Clos de Verger is an ideal base for exploring the vineyards of the Cote de Beaune and also is within reach of the Cote de Nuits. Unusually for this region, we offer secure off road parking for three cars which means no need to leave your cars on the streets overnight. Even better for unloading and loading luggage and for popping children into the cars safely before embarking on your next exciting trip out and about.
Entering our home through the stunning arched oak front door, you are greeted by a large, fully equipped modern kitchen with exposed original beams and the stairs leading to the first floor. You enter the living room by the ramp down which the winemakers have rolled their filled barrels for the last 200 years. Here cosy yet stylish comfort join exposed original beams and stonework. Large sofas swaddle you as you relax to escape the heat of the summer or the cold of winter with a lovely glass of Pommard wine. Beyond the living room leads you to the snug, a great area to read, relax and enjoy discussing the highlights of your day spent wandering around the local villages. The snug has a double sized sofa bed allowing more people to stay in our home if requested and also hosts the downstairs toilet complete with an original Burgundy stone floor.
If you like cooking then our stunning modern kitchen features Burgundy stone worktops throughout and is fully equipped with a large gas range cooker for preparing a gastronomic fayre of Burgundian treats, a fridge-freezer, dishwasher and Nespresso machine all add to your comfort. A handmade bespoke dining table, completes the dining and adds a perfect “hub of the home” feel. The kitchen even boasts a luxuriant sofa where you and your friends can relax whilst the scents of savoury delights tease the taste buds. The only question will be who will want to move from its embrace to do the cooking!
If you thought the living quarters were comfortable then you will not be disappointed by the beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms above stairs. On the first floor you will find the delightful vintage style family bathroom complete with an original fireplace; boasting a deep roll-top bath with unspoilt views over the vines of ‘Clos Verger’, a modern shower as well as twin sinks and toilet. Venture further along the main corridor and you will find 2 double bedrooms awaiting your slumbers. The double bedrooms for your stay feature beautifully restored Burgundian original features such as stone fireplaces and the floors throughout the top floor range from oak to Burgundian stone and original restored Tomettes terracotta tiles. At the end of the corridor is a discrete reading area with its own feature wall of exposed original stone, with a beautiful armchair perfectly ideal for quiet contemplation and a little alone time from the hustle and bustle of life. Although you do have to share it with our friendly koala… Off the reading area is a large double bedroom with a floor of the original ‘Tomettes’ terracotta tiles of the house and second modern family bathroom offering more exposed Burgundy stonework, oak floors and beams as well as a designer stand-alone bath deep enough that even my 6’3” husband can fit comfortably!
We have young children ourselves so the house is fully equipped to welcome all members of the family. With a new wooden cot and mattress which conforms to all baby sleep safety requirements, a highchair, all eating and drinking utensils for the children and a secure courtyard outside space, you can holiday here in the knowledge that your children will sleep and play safe and sound. Plus there is a new washing machine to help with any little accidents.
The whole of the ground floor is completely disabled friendly and with the addition of a sofa bed in our Snug (a proper one for a proper night’s sleep none of this thin mattress nonsense!), it provides a lovely place for maybe older members of your family to stay. Whilst there isn’t a shower or bath downstairs, there is a really generous sized bathroom located right next to the Snug so this can aid those who find it hard to do stairs on a regular basis. Wi-fi operates throughout the house.
Clos de Verger is our family home and whilst we offer it as a three double bedroom rental, there are an additional double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom available upon request. We are more than happy to open up as many bedrooms as you may require to accommodate your stay. We offer this as a three double bedroom rental but if you would prefer 2 doubles and a twin then please let us know. In total our home can sleep and dine 12 people comfortably including the use of the Snug with Sofa Bed. We are happy to help in any way so please feel free to contact us.
Just a short five minute walk into the centre of Pommard village, there are numerous bars and restaurants and endless winemaker domains, ideal for sampling the local wine of Pommard and the Cote de Beaune. The village is bustling throughout the year but a wonderful time to visit is during the month of September when the grapes are harvested. But our village is beautiful to investigate all year through as whether you meander or cycle throughout the vineyards, you will always encounter a land bursting with potential and tended to with love whether by man or even the local horse ploughing between the vines.
Within easy reach (5 minutes by car) is the mediaeval walled town of Beaune with its famous ‘Hospices’, renowned restaurants and a fabulously French Saturday morning market. A world famous wine auction is held in the Hospice every year as it has been since 1859, and a whole weekend of festivities ensue. In fact, festivals are a large part of French life and even more so in the wine region, with the Festival of Saint Vincent setting the starting bell in January through to the New Year in December, this region is a riot of parties dedicated to wine, cheese, chocolate, jazz, classical music and even, dare I say it, Peppa Pig! There are brocante, local produce markets every week and even a local open air natural swimming lake complete with all safety features that provides a great day of family fun in the beautiful Burgundy weather.
Further afield, Dijon provides numerous tours, as well as many shopping and entertainment opportunities with its large shopping centre and concert venues. It is a cosmopolitan hot spot just waiting for you to discover.
Take your time to discover the centuries old towns of Beaune and Dijon and sample the world famous wines of Burgundy whilst enjoying the delights of the regional gastronomy in its superb restaurants. Whether you want wine-tasting tours or walks through historical towns and villages, a stay in Pommard will spoil you with incredible scenery, old-world charm and typical French viticole ambiance – Clos de Verger is a willing accomplice in helping the romance of the Cote de Beaune to steal your heart and the Burgundian joie de vivre infuse and revitalise your soul.
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate stag and hen parties, smoking or pets on the premises.
